Rupert Sheldrake is a hero of mine. He's a Cambridge scholar who coined the term, "morphic resonance," leading to reputable studies in telepathy. I often refer my apprentices to his amazing study re. the "Nkisi Project" http://www.sheldrake.org/Research/nkisi/ when we're doing "remote viewing" exercises. The study involves a linguist, whose parrot would wake her up in the morning—to tell her what she'd been dreaming!
For my cat-loving clients, I just received this in Dr. Sheldrake's recent newsletter:
"I am starting a new project on telephone telepathy in animals. Some cats
seem to know who's calling, and get excited when the person they are
attached to is on the line even before the phone has been answered.
They ignore calls from other people. Some dogs and parrots do this too.
I am currently looking at the natural history of this phenomenon, and
if you have an animal that does this, please tell me about it by
emailing me at sheldrake@sheldrake.org"
