Times of Change — The Latest eNewletter!

It’s certainly a bewildering time. Change is in the wind, and that wind is blowing wildly.

I was just thinking back to a time when I was in grade school. One summer afternoon, I woke my mother who was taking a nap on the living room couch, a rest she surely needed, tending to my three brothers and me.

I tapped her gently and she awoke, turned her head toward me, and asked, “What is it, Sweetheart?”

I was feeling sad and a little lost. I asked, “Why can’t everything stay the same?”

Mother pulled me close and hugged me. She always taught me to feel my feelings, and later on, to trust my intuition. I’ve since wondered if my sensing that day might have been precognitive, a knowing that I would lose both her and Daddy by my twentieth birthday.

Change IS part of life, whether planned or unanticipated. It seems to move independently of us, dismissive of our plans and expectations. It calls for, and fosters in us, resilience and adaptability, essential qualities to thrive in life. Change challenges us to keep moving forward—sometimes, literally, to new locations, jobs, or relationships.

My Edith Ego loathes the unexpected. She relishes believing she can control the future...that she can control everything…that she is ALL POWERFUL! She insists on keeping things just as they are, on maintaining the status quo. She's good at distracting me when aspects of my life feel stagnant or lack fulfillment, and she tries to prevent me from necessary (or even inevitable) expansion.

Edith makes me doubt myself when I’m beginning to feel nudged to move forward in some way, when I feel like my Spirit has ‘left the building,’ which has always been a cue that change is coming. Even when change is underway, Edith still fights it. She makes me doubt myself when I open myself up to change.

Clients are asking for my spin on current events. A lot of politics, policies, and media act like a Big Edith—promoting fear, supporting isolation and separation from the rest of the world—and creating division among us. Edith loves this stuff because it supports her mission to keep things just as they are—or even go back to the way they were. And she can get in a finger wag or hit me with a ‘told you so’ when she points back to how much easier things used to be when we knew less about the world and didn’t have to change much at all. But life is change

Refusing to give up an old, outdated mindset keeps us at a lower frequency. Fighting change prevents us from expanding into who we’re truly here to be.

Many who have been sleepwalking through life are beginning to feel a pull toward all that is kind, loving, truthful, elevating, and expanding. Those who choose to stay stuck on the lower frequencies of fear, power, greed, dishonesty, deception, and cruelty will continue to operate in a distinctly separate reality from those of us choosing to live on the higher frequencies. The good news is we can choose greater happiness by choosing to connect.

Heartfelt, meaningful regard is the answer. Doing unto others as you would have them do unto you applies to thoughts and words as well as actions. And don’t forget about connection! We must continue to share our journeys and be curious about each other’s experiences in the world, to listen to one another more than we talk (I’m looking at you, Edith!)

We can embrace compassion and practice kindness. Inevitably, we’ll come to realize the need for universal CONNECTIVITY among all peoples and hearts on this beautiful, sacred planet. We can hop onto that frequency of connectivity NOW, in our present moments, no matter how tumultuous everything around us or how scary 'out there' seems. Look for — and participtate in — the smallest opportunity to connect!

Kindness is contagious. A good friend recently waited in line behind a woman at the grocery checkout. She was flustered, trying to choose items to put back so that the total would match the bills clutched in her hand. My friend leaned forward and handed a $20 bill to the clerk, a young fellow behind the counter.

The clerk then reached into his pocket, pulled out his wallet, and picked out several bills, saying to the woman, "Now we have enough to cover it all."

The woman thanked them both tearfully, saying, "And it's not even Christmas!"

Take advantage of those spontaneous opportunities to reach out and help. Doing so can instantaneously pull you out of the fear, worry, or angst you’re harboring. Afterward, you might even find you’ve forgotten whatever was troubling you.

Pay attention! Notice, identify, and give thanks for the smallest manifestations that appear in your life. They usually arrive looking quite different than you’ve imagined. Acknowledging and expressing gratitude opens the door so the Universe can surprise you with all the more good stuff!

When you open your heart with gratitude, you immediately connect to the Divine — and then you’re dancing with the Universe!

Happy Mother's Day!
